Mid-Weight Strategist (Shopper/Activation focus)

Hello, we're Impero

We’re an independent, award-winning creative agency.

We work with high-profile, global brands such as George at ASDA, Estee Lauder, Chivas, Corona, Budweiser, First Choice, Paco Rabanne, Great Ormond Street and a bunch of others.

We’re pretty good at what we do. We’ve been nominated for two Agency of The Year(s) including The Drum DADI Agency of the Year in 2022. We were also shortlisted as Campaign Independent Agency of the Year and for two years running, made it onto Campaign Magazine’s 100 best places to work. We were awarded a Silver Arrow at theBritish Arrows Awards 2022.

This year we have our sights set on a D&AD and/or Cannes Lion.

There’s about 40 of us (not including the dogs) — but that number grows all the time because we’re still young, ambitious and do great work.

We’re also 70% female with a 50/50 gender split on the senior team. We proudly have 100% pay parity, and it kind of annoys us that we even have to mention that as something that’s unique within this industry.

We gladly do things differently. We‘re super ambitious, brutally honest and always deliver.

We don’t really like the ‘Old Guard’ of advertising. This is an agency that uses passion, ingenuity, and an anything-is-possible attitude to deliver work across all kinds of platforms.

It’s one of the reasons why working here is hell of a lot of fun.. Everything’s to play for.

Not surprisingly, this is a growing agency, so we’re looking for a Mid-Weight Strategist who wants to be part of, and help drive that growth.

The role:

We’re looking for a Mid-weight Strategist to join the fast-growing strategy team. You’ll be working on shopper/trade/activation focused projects and clients. The work will focus on creative strategies for campaigns & activations that drive conversion ontrade [in bars/pubs and restaurants] and off trade [in the supermarket].

From day one you will be in a fast paced environment with exposure to multiple clients. You know how to navigate business problems from a commercial, customer, shopper and consumer perspective.

You’ll be working alongside our Senior Strategists, Head of Strategy and Chief Strategy Officer to conduct research, compile and translate killer insights for the creative team to get their teeth into as well as developing strategic approaches for brands to drive conversion both on and off trade.

The mission of the Strategy Team is not only to find smart answers to client’s tough problems but also to make the creative output of the agency the best it can be. Projects you’ll get involved in range from launching new products, opening up new occasions, shopper and creative insights, trade marketing strategy & toolkits for local and global markets and driving fame & engagement for brands below the line (BTL). Although the role is largely shopper/trade/activation focused, there will also be opportunities to get involved on other projects within the business as well as working on new business opportunities.

You will be a curious strategist and keen to grow your skills and experience. You will know the importance of working collaboratively with other strategists to solve problems as much as you know how to guide creative teams.

The type of people we want to meet:

You know a big creative idea when you see one, as well as be able to craft harder working sales tactics and toolkits working in collaboration with creative teams.
You will have an interest in working on FMCG and/or Alcohol accounts and be curious in understanding how target consumers behave as shoppers, in different channels and formats, and leveraging this intelligence to the benefit of all stakeholders, being the brand, consumers, retailers and shoppers.
  • An interest in a strategic role [multi-market FMCG/Alcohol]
  • Have an eye for killer insights – cultural, human, behavioural… get us thinking!
  • An interest in BTL advertising and marketing
  • An appetite to learn all about in store and digital point of sale (POS) and e-commerce as well as a curiosity of the shopper and consumer journey on and off trade
  • Strong storytelling skills
  • Confident at selling your ideas and strategy
  • Confident presenter
  • Comfortable working with our Research Manager conducting research [focus groups and surveys] and digesting the output
  • Have strong relationships with our friends in Accounts and Creative
  • Confident to contribute to and sometimes run creative briefings
  • You turn out killer toolkits that can inspire markets all over the world

Transferrable skills

We are committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion among our workforce. Even if you don’t have work experience in advertising, experience can be gained from different industries, hobbies, or voluntary activities that can give you the transferable skills to excel in this role.

Skills that apply to working at Impero range from innovation, creativity, being strategically minded, having the ability to coach, lead and empower others.

The perks of working at The Mighty Impero include:

  • Being part of something special — this is an exciting growing agency with no board of directors, or shareholders to report to.
  • Opportunity to Opt into our Health Insurance.
  • Life assurance and Income Protection.
  • Enhanced Maternity/Paternity policy.
  • Hybrid working which includes a ‘Work From Abroard’ policy.
  • The ability to stamp your mark on an organisation – not just be a cog in the machine.
  • Seasonal company parties.
  • Summer hours in July and August.
  • Annual personal development plan and training budget for your own growth.
  • A ‘yes work’s important, but let’s not get too serious’ vibe.
  • A distinct lack of bureaucracy or politics.
  • Ownership over your own projects whilst enjoying an inclusive environment.

What else

  • Culture Curious – we’re the agency for impatient brands and believe that no matter the size of a brand they can still contribute to and move with culture
  • Proactive Do-er – we’re a fast growing agency, we don’t have time for chin scratcher planners – done is very much better than perfect in this house
  • Organised and self-disciplined – the nature of the agency beast is a keen ability to multitask
  • Self-motivated – we’re a flexible company, you and only you are in charge of meeting your deadlines – we only have one rule – don’t let your team down

Final word:

This is an awesome place to work. We’re in control of our own destiny. But it means we’re the only ones that can deliver it. We’re all massively ambitious and hard working. But it’s also fun.

We all get along, there’s no politics, just heaps of passion. We’re the creative industry’s new guard. And it’s awesome.
