Mid-Weight Strategist (Shopper/Activation focus)

Hello, we’re Impero.

We’re an independent, award-winning creative agency.

We work with high-profile, global brands such as Christian Aid, The Glenlivet, Havana Club & Chivas, Corona, Budweiser, Future Farm, Nature Valley, Dr. Jart, Unicef, Paco Rabanne, EO, and a bunch of others.

We’re pretty good at what we do. We’ve won five Agency of The Year(s) including The Drum DADI Agency of the Year. We were also shortlisted as Campaign Independent Agency of the Year. And, this year made it onto Campaign Magazine’s 100 best places to work.

This year we have our sights set on a D&AD and/or Cannes Lion.

There’s about 50 of us (not including the dogs) — but that number grows all the time because we’re still young, ambitious and do great work.

We’re also 70% female with a 50/50 gender split on the senior team. We proudly have 100% pay parity, and it kind of annoys us that we even have to mention that as something that’s unique within this industry.

We gladly do things differently. We‘re super ambitious, brutally honest and always deliver.

We don’t really like the ‘Old Guard’ of advertising. This is an agency that uses passion, ingenuity, and an anything-is-possible attitude to deliver work across all kinds of platforms. It’s one of the reasons why working here is hell of a lot of fun. It’s a fantastic place to be a Strategist. Everything’s to play for.

Not surprisingly, this is a growing agency, so we’re looking for a Mid-Weight Strategist who wants to be part of, and help drive that growth.

The role:

We’re looking for a Mid-weight Strategist to join the fast-growing strategy team. In particular, you’ll have shopper/trade/activation focused experience and be used to creating strategies for campaigns & activations that drive conversion on and off trade.

You’ll have 3+ years of experience and will have previously worked on FMCG & Alcohol brands – preferably with global reach.

From day one you will be in a fast paced environment with exposure to multiple clients. You know how to navigate business problems from a commercial, customer, shopper and consumer perspective.

You’ll be working alongside our Senior Strategists, Strategy Director and CSO to conduct research, compile and translate into killer insights for the creative team to get their teeth into as well as developing strategic approaches for brands to drive conversion both on and off trade.

The mission of the strategy team is not only to find smart answers to client’s tough problems but also to make the creative output of the agency the best it can be. Projects you’ll get involved in range from launching new products,  opening up new occasions, shopper and creative insights, trade marketing strategy & toolkits for local and global markets and driving fame & engagement for brands BTL. Although the role is largely shopper/trade/activation focused,  there will also be opportunities to get involved on other projects within the business as well as working on new business opportunities.

You will be a curious & experienced strategist but keen to grow your skills and experience. You will know the importance of working collaboratively with other strategists to solve problems as much as you know how to guide creative teams.

The type of people we want to meet:

You would have come from a solid shopper or activation agency and know a big creative idea when you see one, as well as be able to craft harder working sales tactics working in collaboration with creative teams.

You will have previously worked on FMCG and/or Alcohol accounts and show a deep understanding of how target consumers behave as shoppers, in different channels and formats, and leveraging this intelligence to the benefit of all stakeholders, being the brand, consumers, retailers and shoppers.

  • 3+ years of agency experience in a strategic role [multi-market FMCG/Alcohol is preferred]
  • Have an eye for killer insights – cultural, human, behavioural… get us thinking!
  • Proven experience in BTL advertising and marketing – ideally both on and off trade
  • A knowledge of in store and digital POS and e-commerce as well as an understanding of the shopper and consumer journey on and off trade
  • Strong storytelling skills
  • Confident at selling your ideas and strategy
  • Strong client facing experience – confident presenting to senior stakeholders
  • Proven experience working on large 360-campaigns [multi-market preferred]
  • Comfortable working with our Research Manager conducting research [focus groups and surveys] and digesting the output
  • Have strong relationships with our friends in Accounts and Creative
  • Confident to contribute to and sometimes run creative briefings

What else:

  • Culture Curious – we’re the agency for impatient brands and believe that no matter the size of a brand they can still contribute to and move with culture
  • Proactive Do-er – we’re a fast growing agency, we don’t have time for chin scratcher planners – done is very much better than perfect in this house
  • Organised and self-disciplined – the nature of the agency beast is a keen ability to multitask
  • Self-motivated – we’re a flexible company, you and only you are in charge of meeting your deadlines – we only have one rule – don’t let your team down

The perks of working at The Mighty Impero include:

  • Being part of something special — this is an exciting growing agency with no board of directors, or shareholders to report to.
  • Opportunity to opt into our Health Insurance.
  • Life assurance and Income Protection.
  • Enhanced Maternity/Paternity policy.
  • Hybrid working.
  • The ability to stamp your mark on an organisation – not just be a cog in the machine.
  • Seasonal company parties.
  • Annual personal development plan and training budget for your own growth.
  • A ‘yes work’s important, but let’s not get too serious’ vibe.
  • A distinct lack of bureaucracy or politics.
  • Ownership over your own projects whilst enjoying an inclusive environment.
  • Beer. Gin. Rum. Cognac. Whiskey. Snacks. (Working with our clients has added perks).

Final word:

This is an awesome place to work. We’re in control of our own destiny. But it means we’re the only ones that can deliver it. We’re all massively ambitious and hard working. But it’s also fun.

We all get along, there’s no politics, just heaps of passion. We’re the creative industry’s new guard. And it’s awesome.
